Summer hit in an explosion of heat reminiscent of the tropics. It had been so cold and dreary when I landed in Norway that I couldn’t believe it would ever warm up – I had even (realistically, I thought) titled my ongoing photo album ‘One Cold Summer,’ when out of nowhere, the heat wave of a lifetime descended upon the North – and stayed.
What is there to say? It’s hard to believe it’s real. Between the endless work on endless projects, northern Norway has been paradise. Too hot to handle! we keep exclaiming, bewildered and delighted. Plunging into the turquoise ocean, frolicking around on beaches, laying in the sun, watching it slip behind the mountains and rise moments later. Here are some glimpses into the last few weeks.

Back in Narvik for a week, as a break from work, I went for a mountain run in Tøttadalen. In a bathing suit. That kind of heat.
I then went to Vesterålen for the first time to meet Tor Edvin at the end of a film production he had been working on. We grilled on this beach in the midnight sun, swimming in the ocean and drinking champagne, until 5 AM.
And then we were in Lofoten with our wonderful friends Camilla and Rolf.

We spend a day in Kvalvika, the legendary beach where the documentary “North of the Sun” was filmed. It was so hot we went swimming twice, staying in and playing in the waves until we couldn’t feel our feet anymore.
Time flies and the tide keeps changing. Time to get back to work.
